An important National Daily of Bangladesh Prothom Alo of 8th January published a news about launching the first digital book by the University of Dhaka.  The Book has been authored by Rupa Chakrabarty and it was electronically digitized by Mustafa Jabbar of Ananda Computers under the general supervision of Professor Monsur Musa of the department of Bengali, Institute of Modern Languages (IML).

The launching ceremony was attended by the treasurer of Dhaka University Professor Abul Kalam Azad and the Registrar of the university Syed Rezaur Raman, The proprietor of the Bengali software Bijoy Mr. Mustafa Jabbar explained the process of making the digital text book elaborately and the implication of digital book in our primary education sector.

Professor Monsur Musa in his elaborate introduction explained the importance of "Spoken Bengali" in digital form to the foreign learners of Bengali, Bengali learners of English and ethnic students for learning Bengali. These three dimensional importance is a culmination of the dream of Michael West. He was a teacher in teachers training college under Dhaka University during the establishment of the university. When Dhaka University was established he said that text material construction is a part and parcel of university education. The book “Spoken Bengali" is a fulfillment of his dream.

The treasurer in his address congratulated the institute of Modern Language for taking initiative in making the language text book in digital form. It should be mentioned that the book has three dimensions. It is written in IPA and Bengali script with an English version. The book not only be helpful for learning Bengali but also learning standard English. Director of the Institute Abdur Rahim thanks all the participants.
